The orgasm is so popular, it even has its own holiday. December 21 is World Orgasm Day. And we have some interesting facts for you to celebrate it.
In the end, it’s just a few muscles contracting. But everyone who has experienced an orgasm knows it’s much more than that. No wonder people have even dedicated a day to celebrate the climax of all climaxes. On this World Orgasm Day, there are a few things you might not know about yet.
When you have an orgasm, your nervous system takes over
During an orgasm, both boys and girls experience a rhythmic contraction of the muscles in their pelvic region. This can be accompanied by heavy breathing, a faster heartbeat, hot flushes or even involuntarily body movements such as curling your toes. Everyone reacts differently during an orgasm but in general it is described as a very pleasurable and relaxing experience.
There are many ways to come
An orgasm is usually achieved through stimulation of the penis or the clitoris. But there are quite a few other ways to get there, for example by caressing the nipples or inner thighs. Some of those don’t include any touching at all. People can come in their sleep – just through the power of a sexy dream. Others even experience an orgasm when they do sports. The so-called exercise-induced orgasm can occur when you use your tummy muscles at a high frequency. If that isn’t a great reason to work out we don’t know what is. Fact is that there is no guaranteed way to achieve orgasm. Everyone’s different and what works for your friend might not work you. So take your time to find out what you like – and what you love.
To many teens, an orgasm is not a top priority
It might seem like orgasms are all that counts in the bedroom. But for youth all over the world, being with someone they love is much more important than having an orgasm. This was shown in a global study conducted among youth in 15 countries worldwide. The results are clear: While having an orgasm was important to 22.7% (male) and 14.7% (female) of the surveyed, being with someone they love ranked as a top priority at over 70%. So don’t be too focused on achieving an orgasm and don’t let anyone put pressure on you, not even yourself. It’s much more important that you and your partner feel comfortable and enjoy each other’s company. The rest will most likely come naturally – and eventually, so will you.
Feeling protected can help you relax
The study also shows that 50% of boys and 57% of girls think it is particularly important to use protection so they don’t have to worry about becoming pregnant or contracting a sexually transmitted infection (STI). Makes sense, doesn’t it? If you and your partner have nothing to worry about you will find it much easier to relax and fully let yourself go. In the study, 77% of the surveyed youth also claimed that protected sex is more fun, because it’s more relaxed and more passionate. So don’t hesitate to talk openly about contraception – it might make things a lot more fun.
