Who can I turn to for more advice?

Even if it is your own decision, there are a number of people you can talk to if you are considering having sex. You might dread the thought of bringing up the subject, but many people share these feelings of nervousness and embarrassment. However, you may feel better once you have discussed it, rather than worrying about it alone.

It could be helpful to tell your partner how you are feeling, and perhaps discuss things with a close friend who you really trust.

Also, although it may seem awkward at first, if you bring up the subject of sex with one or both of your parents, they may appreciate your honesty and maturity, and respect any decision you make.

You can also speak to a health care professional, such as your local doctor or someone at a family planning centre, if you would like advice on contraception to protect against unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). There are also a number of professional help groups which have trained staff that you can talk to in confidence.
