Types of Contraception

Contraceptives fall into two main types:

  1. Barrier methods designed to stop sperm getting into the womb, where it may fertilise the egg.
  2. Hormonal methods that temporarily alter the way your reproductive system works.
  3. There are other methods, but they are less sophisticated in avoiding pregnancy. The withdrawal method is one of the best known, however all these options are much more risky.

Please note that information relating to the effectiveness of contraceptive methods is based on the method being administered according to the product label.
