NGO PROFILES – APCOC

The primary mission of APCOC – a non-profit professional organisation - is to promote the effective use of family planning and contraception through education, best practice programs and advocacy in the Asia-Pacific region. The influence of APCOC in the development of reproductive healthcare policies in the Asia-Pacific region involves working with the countries through leadership of APCOC members in the area to find suitable strategies, appropriate for the cultural and social environment and economic setting. As a natural consequence of its objectives, APCOC also promotes sexual and reproductive health.

As APCOC brings together professional leaders in the field in Asia-Pacific, it is well-placed to introduce evidence-based practices and state-of-the-art educational programs, activities and materials into clinical practice, especially in more isolated areas of the region. APCOC works in partnership with the relevant professional bodies and societies, governmental authorities, non-governmental organisations, teachers, industry and the general community.

APCOC has a multi-modality approach in its promotion and improvement of women's health in the region , through several educational instruments to bring new and relevant knowledge - meetings/congresses/workshops, publications, website,and interactions with communication media (television, radio, magazines).

The objectives of APCOC involve the creation of awareness and conduct of programs in the following areas:

• Contraception/family planning
• Abortion and teenage pregnancy
• Sexually transmitted diseases
• Sexual and reproductive health

As a group of respected leaders who are recognized for their expertise in the professional field in the Asia-Pacific region , APCOC is a key source of information and knowledge in contraception and family planning

APCOC depends on the best global practices in awareness creation and program implementation. and promotes these best practices locally through:
language- and culture-specific education initiatives targeting health care professionals, teachers and the general public ,advocacy activities to influence healthcare policy and practice on a macro level, and collaborative partnerships with other NGOs and pharmaceutical industry to raise awareness for contraception and family planning
